find my friends

It’s crazy how friendships evolve. A bond formed years ago becomes a thin thread linking two distant persons across the ether. It’s frayed wiring is renewed by a few words exchanged over the phone, a comment on a post, a photo unearthed from previous lifetimes. I support you from afar. I am cheering you on always. Time has passed and things have changed, but I remember the vital part of you that still rings true. Old friends remind you of your essence, which remains unchanged regardless of time elapsed, setting or circumstance. Even when you think you’ve lost it, that your youthful vitality has evaporated and that your exterior has hardened into an unrecognizable husk, old friends keep your home warm with candles and freshly baked goods and happily call you back home from the dense forest of confusion. I am once again grounded by people who know me and love me. Shared memories of simpler times, the silent acknowledgment that things have both changed and stayed the exact same, provides invaluable comfort. I am reminded that I am never alone; that, by virtue, real connections withstand the trials of time and space. They are forever nestled within the folds of my heart, lifting my heavy chest heavenwards and gently supporting every step I take.
